A Tear For David

So many things I've to say
But I can't quite find the way
To make the words come out
Yet I find myself without

The words I need to say
For how I feel today
A tear slides down my cheek
I feel so damn weak

I want to hold you and tell you it's alright
To chase the world away and hide with you in the night
But that still isn't how I truely feel my son
No, I'll not turn and run

Instead I give you a piece of my heart and a tear
To remember each day that I am near
Reach deep inside and you shall find
Exactly where I hide

I am the wind that kisses your face each day
I am the sun that ducked behind the clouds today
I am the bird that sang you a song
I am the shadow that followed you along

I am and always will be here
I am that solitary tear
I am never far
Just look up at that shining star

I am there, I am here
I am in your heart and chasing your fear
My love will not fade like footprints in the sand
Just reach out and take my hand

I love you son and wanted you to know
